First Aid - Safety Module 1

6 May 2023 7 May 2023

240€

Learn how to deal with medical emergencies on and in the water

The First Aid course is the first module of our Safety Training and deals with the medical aspects of emergencies on and in the water. During the course, you will receive numerous tips on correct behavior in the event of accidents in white water, refresh your first aid knowledge and can ask questions that have been on your mind for a while.

With this two-day first aid course tailored to whitewater sports, we want to provide you with a guide to the most common medical problems. In addition to the current guidelines for resuscitation, we will also talk about wound care, splinting options, how to deal with pre-existing conditions and discuss the optimal contents of the first aid kit. We will also take an excursion into "Crisis Resource Management" and see how the principles applied there can help us to maintain an overview even in chaotic emergency situations.

Course Schedule

On day 1, the ideal venue is the Kanucenter Innsbruck (KCI), where we can not only discuss theoretical topics, but also put what we have learned into practice with the help of simulation dummies.

On the second day, we head out onto the water - depending on the water level and paddling experience on the Sill, Ötztaler Ache, Brandy, Sanna or the Inn. Here you immediately realize how much influence clothing, temperature and environment have on an emergency scenario. That's why it's all about practicing, practicing, practicing! In many case studies, we put into practice what we learned the day before and gain a foundation of experience that will hopefully allow us to act prudently in the next real emergency.
