WW Rescue - Module 3

The WW Rescue safety course is the third module of our safety training. As the name suggests, this course focuses primarily on rescuing and recovering people and equipment in white water. Naturally, this also includes the immediate vicinity of rivers. By its very nature, this also includes the immediate vicinity of rivers. In order to participate in this course module, you should have already successfully completed First Aid Module 1 and Alpine Skills Module 2 or have appropriate alpine and medical experience. Please repeat all the contents of these modules again before starting the course (e.g. common knots, correct behavior in a medical emergency, etc.)!

This allows us to really get going with the WW Rescue safety course and carry out lots of practical exercises.

Course schedule

On the morning of the first day of the course, there will be an extensive theory session at the Kanucenter Innsbruck (KCI), where we will go through all the important course topics in detail. In the course of some "dry runs" we will get to know the safety material and useful aids and receive important information about the practical exercises that are on the program during the course. After a short lunch break, we will then head out onto the water and deal extensively with the topics of personal rescue and active self-rescue. The Sill and Inn rivers - both in the immediate vicinity of the canoe center - offer us ideal conditions for this. After a variety of practical exercises, we will meet again at the canoe center for a debriefing and maneuver critique and summarize the most important findings of the day.

The second day of the course takes place - depending on the prevailing water levels - on a river in the greater Innsbruck area. In addition to the return swim in a weir, on this day we primarily deal with material recovery and the solution of entrapment accidents.

How to recover material on the river and rescue people quickly from dangerous situations.
